More and more people are choosing to get married abroad. Fleeing the UK to tie the knot with your loved one has a number of advantages that you may not yet have considered.
So, why should you think about jetting off for your wedding?
Make savings on the cost
Recent research found that the average cost of a wedding day in the UK comes to just over £20,000. This is a staggering amount of money by anybody’s standards. With rising prices in our own country and little improvement in the way of annual salaries, it makes more sense financially to make the trip abroad to exchange vows, where prices can be massively cheaper. Of course, consider the exchange rate of various countries to see what may offer you the best deal for the kind of service you want to throw, particularly with a fairly volatile Euro at the moment.
Less chance of bad weather
We love to moan about the weather in the UK, but generally this is because we have a good reason to do so! Even if your wedding is booked in June or July with best intentions and wishes of getting one of those rare sunny days, there’s certainly no guarantee that this will happen. Having your wedding abroad greatly reduces the risk of your day being ruined by a downpour. What will look better in the photos: bright blue skies behind the bride and groom or everyone having to hide under tents to avoid getting wet?
Be pickier with your guest list
When weddings are held in the UK, especially if it is somewhere local to you and all of your extended family, you often feel like you have to invite certain people even when, deep down, you don’t really want to. Awkward greetings with the aunt and uncle you never see and only get a Christmas card from once every other year aren’t exactly the kind of thing you want to be worrying about on your big day. Marrying abroad provides a great excuse for having a more ‘selective’ guest list, while also cutting down on the vast expense of accommodating and feeding everyone you would likely have to pay for in the UK.
Combine wedding and honeymoon
As you are already abroad, you’ll be able to combine the wedding and subsequent honeymoon into one trip. The fact that you, your partner and your guests are most likely in a beautiful and sunny setting will mean that relaxation will come far more easily than if you were back at home with all of the stress that comes with it. The fact that there are so many different countries where you can choose to get married nowadays also adds to the benefits, from anywhere as near as the south of France to somewhere like Sri Lanka, Mauritius or the Caribbean being amongst the most popular luxury destinations for weddings.
