Are Wedding Sparklers Safe?

When it comes to wedding favors and making a grand exit you want to make sure your grand gestures are safe. Check out our sweet guide below on keeping the wedding party on an all-time high, and setting a bright mood for your big day!

Get Creative with Keeping It Safe

Gift your guests some added safety with extra-long sparkler stems. They’ll be able to keep them far from their face and well enough away from your dress that nothing catches fire! There are many benefits to choosing really long wedding sparklers versus the standard shorter sizes, but safety is the most obvious benefit.

Set Some Wedding Sparkler Safety Rules

According to the Child Accident Prevention Trust, “A sparkler can reach a temperature of up to 2,000°C. That’s 20 times the boiling point of water.” Follow tips to keeping safe:

  • Light each sparkler one at a time.
  • Wear gloves for added safety.
  • Kids under the age of five shouldn’t be given sparklers since they simply just don’t understand how they can be dangerous.
  • Don’t pick your child or baby up while you’ve got a sparkler in your hand due to wandering hands. Simply put: Kids grab stuff.
  • Be sure to appoint a supervisor for children aged five and over that you give a wedding sparkler!
  • Give kids a specific set of rules: No running. Do not pick up sparklers that go out. Do not touch the sparkler with your free hand. Do not pick up a sparkler that goes out off the ground. It cannot be lit again. Keep your sparkler at arm’s length away from your face and above your waist.
  • Place buckets of water at the end of either line of guests to put out spent sparklers.
  • Always buy actual sparklers for weddings and not ones made for other events. Only genuine wedding sparklers are made from special compounds to burn evenly and produce virtually zero smoke so they can be used safely indoors.

When All Else Fails

If they make you nervous, ditch them for guests and just do one epic photograph with your bridal party! It’s much easier to coordinate wedding sparklers among a small group of people, and you can also take the time to make sure they know how to use them safely and responsibly to avoid any unwanted situations from arising.
